As with most
things in life there is a batch of rules to complicate the situation.
The batch of rules in this instance relate to the type and permanence
of the work that you're allowed to undertake and the visa or
passport that you hold.
Fax
on demand service
This service
is designed to assist both consular staff and the public by providing
24-hour easy and quick access to faxed copies of a range of the
most frequently requested visa and passport information and forms.
British and EC
passport holders
There are no
restrictions here on the type and permanence of the work that
you perform, bar the fact that it must be legal, of course.
Ancestral
visas
You can find
a permanent or contract/temporary position in any field you choose.
No restrictions.
Working
holiday visa
Here is where
the restrictions start. The purpose of this visa is to allow
you to work in order to fund your holiday, and not to further
your career. This work must be incidental to your holiday.
You may not perform
the following work:
permanent work
professional work
work that furthers your career
In many situations
you will find temporary work through an employment agency. In
this situation the employment agency is technically your employer
and they have a responsibility to ensure that the work you do
complies with the terms of your visa. Reputable agencies generally
have a good understanding of the various visa restrictions and
employment law. It is advisable to consult them on the type of
work that you are allowed to perform.
